A Plan of Action pt1

As we ponder the choices made in our lives (both good and bad) we must continue to push forward as mentioned in the previous blog. I wanted to make sure that I left you with a few tools (during this holiday season),to use as you research and clarify your purpose for your business or organization.

Deal with the priorities: First; take a good inventory of what obstacles will lie ahead and which ones can be overcome sooner rather than later.Second; look at your current circle of influence (those around you that might help in a faster manifestation of your goals)Thirdly; make a list; it should look something like this:

Things I need right now to make my business successful

Things I want

List #3

Personal qualities I both need and want for my business to succeed

At the end of this exercise make sure that the list closely aligns with your vision for the company.

2 b2b or not 2 b2b that is the dilemma

It’s been a long time since my last rant.. I am sorry I kept you waiting.;-) I am currently finishing an inspiring self-help book Start where you are by Chris Gardner. It has helped my tremendously in the last few weeks. I and my family are debating the process of building an ‘income empire’ for lack of a better phrase which we hope will eventually allow us true financial freedom and the chance to help others achieve the same, thus making the world a better place. (No small feat I know) Since the Obama adminstration has no clue on how to create jobs, I believe it is time for all of us to get started where we are! How you might ask?? Well..many of you already have transferable skills or a vocation that could be monetized, others are better with numbers or customer service. I am a jack of all trades in the financial sector, Insurance, Investments,Lending…I need to Leverage all theses skills and then some with the current technology available. Now I repeat Right Now is not the time to be afraid !! If we don’t figure this out for ourselves who will? Going back to the book, it encourages one to start with baby steps”inch by inch” but keep moving forward even when you get distracted or stumble because of unforseen obstacles. It will ultimately lead you to achieving a goal or task that was set before you. Learn from your past mistakes and capitalize on your success. The more success, the easier it is to believe then achieve. We all know that the only way to get out of this quagmire is individual wealth creation. Re-think what it is that you are currently doing. Be diligent in your research. So in layman’s terms: Start your own Business before 2012!

Maybe it’s just me. But our Government seems to suffer from suffocation. In the immortal words of Sylvester the Cat”suffering succotash” ! Who’s next in line for a hand out?

Bear Stearns, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and now we are hearing the Big Three Ford, Chrysler and General Motors are requesting a Brick of Cheese and Quest Cardas , while the countries infrastructure continues to crumble. Jobless claims on the rise and Corporations,manufacturers and retailers margins are shrinking by the hour. Meanwhile the Nation is in the midst of a messy divorce called the Election. Really people , do you think that any of these folks right or left can come up with a comprehensive solution for obliterating 400 Billion dollars worht of debt? I didn’t think so.

Like the Boy Scouts say “always be prepared” start saving like your life depended on it. Research and investigate the next big trends for this nations economic upturn. Energy, Water, Global Warming, Transportation, Infrastructure. Lending.

Stretching your dollar

Being creative with your money, time, and energy means everything now. Some people already live in areas where their money goes a long way. A story on CNN today said that Plano, Texas is better than New York City as a place to build wealth.*

Purposeful living is the big play, and here are ideas to help you. I will continue to offer tips like this on ifinance

When investing:

Study the past. Look at how the economic wunderkinds of old made it through the hard times.
Consider the potential power of alternative energy sources. Solar, wind, and coal are huge possibilities. Learn how to maneuver in that field of play. Ask yourself: Who are the lithium makers?
Invest in improving your knowledge about money. Skip that burger or Starbucks and buy a book or a CD series about money. The book I’m reading now is, “Mentored by a Millionaire: Master Strategies of Super Achievers.”

Household budgeting requires the same kind of strategic thinking, even when meeting your family’s basic needs. Though times are tough, this is an opportunity realign ourselves with good money habits and teach our children those skills.

When planning your spending:

Plan entertainment wisely. Go to matinees instead of costlier evening showings. If you don’t have a pool, buy colorful water guns and grill hotdogs in the backyard instead of paying more for a family visit to the waterpark.
Plan trips as all-inclusive jaunts. Make one trip include a run to the dry cleaner, the dentist, the mall.
Plan visits to stores like Wal-Mart and Target to shop for retail and groceries. Eliminate the second trip to the grocery store.
Try the dollar store. Find items that give you the same value as the name-brands you usually buy at other stores, at higher prices.
Load up on big items at Sam’s and Costco’s and split it with family and friends. By doing this, you both save.

Economic challenges are invaluable opportunities to grow. Don’t be discouraged by how hard things are or will become; take this chance to make your life, and the life of your family better by growing in wisdom about handling money.

*This was confirmation for me. My wife and I moved to Plano, Texas earlier this month from Denver, Colorado. We moved to Texas because of lower living costs.

Something fishy with the Dow

As I write this, the Dow Jones Index is off by 300 points!! That would be over a 2 percent loss for the day for those that are keeping score.

Something is just not right with all this volatility — while great for daytraders or swing traders like myself – this can be utterly frightening and become very worrisome for the longterm buy-and-hold investor.

Things are truly tightening, credit, expansion, everything.
Washington Mutual and AIG are both looking to reduce their portfolios via writeoffs and crude oil still at $96.00 per barrel. Oh, and did I fail to mention the GM recorded its worse loss ever?

Did someone say recession? Cash is and always will be king. Continue to invest selectively and with a visionary approach toward the economy. It could get MUCH worse before it gets better….Another example will be when other countries start to seriously consider getting away from U.S. dollar-related securites? (Think banks, mortgage companies, insurance.)

Just keep a Close EYE on your portfolios and don’t be afraid to move to the sidelines if this keeps up.
